Can you clean windows with a pending rain storm ?

Let’s say you’re a window cleaner or a window cleaning customer. The appointment was set weeks ago, just in time for a holiday gathering. The windows are filthy from month’s of neglect. You’re relaxing after dinner watching the local news, when the weekly forecast is displayed, rain. It’s a whopper of a storm too, consequently arriving shortly after the windows will be cleaned. As the homeowner, you wonder will it be money wasted? As the window cleaner, you wonder how many cancellations and loss of income will this amount to? In my personal opinion the answer to both of these questions is no and none!

Rain does not make windows dirty !

Contaminants in water make windows dirty. Water that has traveled through the ground, collected in reservoirs, then pumped through metal pipes has collected quite an amount of minerals and grit. Rainwater on the other hand is clean, pure, and free of particulates. It evaporates clear and residue free. If you’re aware of a window cleaning technique called “Pure water cleaning” this is the preferred cleaning method of a lot of window cleaners. Tap water is run through a series of filters that deionize and purify tap water through reverse osmosis. The purified water is then ran through a water fed pole with a brush attachment.

Don’t Reschedule !

Unless the weather is calling for extremely windy conditions, I have never called a client to reschedule our appointment. Very few clients have changed their appointments after I have explained the effects of rain on glass. I actually finished a few jobs the week leading up to Christmas working in the rain! When the Sun broke through, the panes were spotless!

In Conclusion

We don’t get a lot of wet weather in The Coachella Valley. The last few weeks have been rather uncharacteristic for Southern California. Not unwelcome though, I love the smell of the rain and how it washes down our community. As a homeowner don’t let it spoil your plans have your windows cleaned. As a window cleaner, educate your customers as to the benefits of mother nature’s free wash. Feel free to leave a comment or question or visit our website for more window cleaning tips.
